The Saga of Nutscaves began in June 2011, when I created a new save file to learn the ins and outs of Dwarf Fortress 2010 (a.k.a. DF 31.25). I had previously played only version 40d of the game.
The fortress Nutscaves was doomed from the start, perhaps from the moment I randomly generated its fateful name. But, somehow Nutscaves survived on the absolute brink of disaster, through one nightmare after another, for more than seventeen years of dwarven history.
The tale deserves to be shared with a wider audience, I feel. More than two years later, here it is. I hope you enjoy it.
